Former Italian Leader Criticizes Europe’s Approach to Trump, China

(MENAFN) Former Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi sharply criticized Europe’s handling of relations with US President Donald Trump, arguing that European countries behave “like servants” toward Washington while lacking a consistent policy toward China.

According to reports, Prodi made the remarks during an appearance at the Festival dell'Economia di Trento, where he expressed concern over Europe’s political direction and international positioning.

"We behave like servants in front of Trump and we do not know how to behave in front of the Chinese," Prodi said at the Festival dell'Economia di Trento.

He emphasized that the European Union needs stronger internal unity and greater ability to respond collectively to international developments.

"Europe should have a unified capacity for intervention," Prodi said, underlining the importance of a coordinated European response to global challenges.

Reports noted that Europe has faced increasing tensions in transatlantic relations during Trump’s second presidential term, particularly over issues involving trade, defense, and broader strategic priorities.
