U.S. Requests USD6 Billion Arms Deal with Israel

(MENAFN) The Trump administration is requesting authorization from Congress to transfer close to $6 billion in military equipment to Israel, according to a report by a news agency on Friday.

This potential transaction encompasses an estimated $3.8 billion agreement for 30 AH-64 Apache helicopters and an additional $1.9 billion package involving 3,250 armored combat vehicles intended for the Israeli military, the news agency reported, referencing individuals knowledgeable about the discussions.

According to one source cited by the news agency, the military hardware likely wouldn’t reach Israel for another two to three years.

The acquisition would be funded through U.S.-allocated foreign military aid, based on paperwork examined by the journal.

Quoting sources acquainted with the situation, the article mentioned that the State Department is attempting to secure authorization from the top four Republican and Democratic figures on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

As per the report, congressional leaders initially received notice of the arms deals roughly a month before Israel’s Sept. 9 strike targeting Hamas officials in Qatar.

Despite the Israeli offensive, the administration has continued pushing for the weapons approval, sources indicated, according to the publication.
