Pilot to Attempt Record-Setting Flight Around Hollywood Sign to Raise Funds for Alzheimer Research & Combat Elder Abuse

Elevating Elder Dignity - One Flight at a Time

Pilot Michael Bremner will circle the Hollywood Sign to raise Alzheimer’s funds and spotlight the growing crisis of elder abuse and financial fraud.

Elder abuse today is where drunk driving was in the 1950s and 60s,” Bremner said. “It was a major social issue, but there were no real consequences only when public awareness grew did things change”

COSTA MESA, CA, UNITED STATES, October 10, 2025 /EINPresswire.com/ -- A small aircraft circling the skies above the Hollywood Hills will carry a powerful message this weekend. On Saturday, October 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., retired media executive and corporate jet captain Michael Bremner will attempt an unofficial world record by continuously flying around the iconic Hollywood Sign in a single-engine plane.

The event, organized by Elder Abuse Air Force, aims to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s research and spotlight the growing crisis of elder financial fraud and physical abuse. Donations and additional details are available at www.ElderAbuseAirForce.com.

Mission: Elevating Elder Dignity

Founded by Bremner, Elder Abuse Air Force is a nonprofit initiative dedicated to “Elevating Elder Dignity.” Saturday’s flight is designed to draw public attention to two interconnected issues: the devastating impact of Alzheimer’s disease and the widespread, often unpunished epidemic of elder abuse.

Bremner, was inspired to act after his own family experienced elder financial exploitation.

“People with memory loss are particularly vulnerable,” Bremner said. “They’re often targeted precisely because they can’t recall details of conversations or financial decisions. It’s a silent epidemic that destroys lives.”

A Growing National Crisis

The scale of elder exploitation in the United States is staggering. The FBI reported that $4.8 billion was stolen from seniors in 2024, with more than half of those crimes committed by family members. Yet despite the prevalence and severity of the problem, elder abuse cases often go unprosecuted.

“Elder abuse today is where drunk driving was in the 1950s and 60s,” Bremner said. “It was a major social issue, but there were no real consequences. Only when public awareness grew and laws changed did behavior begin to shift. We need the same level of response now.”

Alzheimer’s and Abuse: A Dangerous Connection

Saturday’s event also highlights the link between cognitive decline and vulnerability to exploitation. Individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or memory impairment are disproportionately targeted for scams, coercion, and physical abuse.

“Alzheimer’s doesn’t just steal memories — it removes a person’s defenses,” Bremner said. “When someone cannot remember signing a check or authorizing a transaction, proving abuse becomes extremely difficult. That’s why prevention, awareness, and research are essential.”

Elder Abuse Air Force’s immediate goal is to raise $5,000 for Alzheimer’s research during the three-hour flight. However, Bremner says the organization’s broader mission is systemic change.

“Our long-term goal is to wake up the justice system,” he said. “Elder abuse isn’t a family dispute or a civil disagreement — it’s a crime. Like drunk driving, it must be met with serious legal consequences.”

Bremner hopes that the spectacle of a plane circling one of the world’s most recognizable landmarks will spark broader conversation and drive action.

“When people look up and see that aircraft circling the Hollywood Sign, I want them to think about their parents, grandparents, and neighbors,” Bremner said. “Everyone deserves to age with dignity — and we all have a role in protecting that dignity.”
